The Sycamore Band and Orchestra Boosters will be holding their 60th annual “Tag Day” on Saturday, August 25th, 2018 from 9:00am to Noon. More than 500 students and 125 parent volunteers will take part in this year’s event which is one of 4 annual fundraisers sponsored by the Sycamore Band and Orchestra Boosters.
Begun in 1958, Tag Day is a door to door solicitation of the Sycamore Community School District by the students, grades 7 – 12, enrolled in the district’s Bands and Orchestras. In the early years, members of the Sycamore High School Band went door to door asking for donations from neighbors and friends on a Saturday morning in early September. When the students received a donation, the donor was given a small ‘tag’ that they could display to show their support the program.
Over the years Tag Day has grown and evolved. Donors are no longer given a “tag” but instead are listed as “patrons” in the concert programs of the Sycamore Bands and Orchestras and, as the community grew, so has the number of students involved in instrumental music as well as the opportunities for these students to participate in a wide variety of band and orchestra experiences. Money raised through the fundraising efforts of the Sycamore Band and Orchestra Boosters goes to support these students and the numerous instrumental music opportunities provided by the Sycamore Community Schools.
Additional fundraisers held during the upcoming school year include the Sycamore Arts and Crafts Show on November 17, 2018, Pancake Day (District Fine Arts Fair) on March 2, 2019 and a Mattress Sale on April 29, 2019.
