  • Director, Sycamore Winds & Wind Symphony
  • Director, Sycamore High School Marching Band
  • Assistant Director, Sycamore Junior High School 8th Grade Band

Jim Blankenship has served as the Director of Bands at Sycamore High School since 2014 and served as the Interim District Music Supervisor for the 2017 school year.  A Middletown, Ohio native and graduate of Miami University, Jim brings a rich diversity of teaching experience to the Sycamore Music Program. As a testament to that work, Jim has twice received Sycamore High School’s Bridge Builder Award, an award that honors staff members who have made a significant impact in a student’s life.  Before coming to Sycamore, Jim served as the Director of Bands at Northmont High School. During that time, Northmont received consistent Superior Ratings at OMEA Large Group Contest in class AA, and were multiple BOA Grand National Semi-Finalists.

His teaching experience extends well outside the public school setting.  Jim served as the Wind Coordinator at Rhythm X, leading them to their first WGI World Championship in Independant World Class in the same year.  Additionally, he was a member of the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps Brass Education Team from 2007-2009, who were DCI World Champion Finalists each of those years.  Jim has had the honor of serving as a clinician for OMEA All State Jazz Band and presenting several years at OMEA Professional Conference as a clinician and director.

In addition to teaching, Jim is a talented and active trombonist. He has extensive experience as a freelance musician and was a member of the Jazz Education Connection of Ohio Big Band, Solo Trombonist for the Ohio Valley British Brass Band, and a member of Son Del Caribe.

Jim lives with his wife Alison and his young son Harrison in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Jim loves to play trombone but is equally at home on the golf course and a proud member of Wildwood Golf Club in Middletown, Ohio.
